maty j 6
Anyone used one of these, the elastic type gun? I was looking at a gas one a while ago but didn't want to spend 50 quid so I picked one up today S/H cheap (the slingshot type). The elastic doesn't look like theres that much life left in it so I'll need some more If I can find somewere to get it from. It's only got one spear too, With A trident type head on it. Anyone tried these or know were I can get the spares from?? Quote Link to post
mackem 29,574
Might surprise you Maty, but I have used one for small reef-fish,I will ask someone to send me Pics of the native-made ones I used to use, kids used to make them and sell them for the equivalent of 50 pence Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Yeah be good to see them M. With the look on mine It has interchangeable heads like the trident screws off. It's a Diana nautisub If that means anything - made in Spain? I'll get some pics of mine up after, I'm going out in a bit. Only thing on this one, there's no were to put string to wind the fish in or in my case, retrieve the arrow Once I've got a better aim with it I'll see what's about. Do you know of anywhere selling spare arrows or elastic? I don't mind If It's over the pond or whatever. Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Just been looking online and seen some pics of a few and It has got space for cord. Just theres a clip underneath that holds it in. Quote Link to post
mackem 29,574
I will ask someone to get some pics,do a websearch on Badjao sea-gypsies,not the ones who now live around places like Davao, but the real ones down in sulu&jolo,I stayed with them for 3 months once, small kids would manufacture spearguns from off-cuts of wood, triggers from bent nails, necessity is the mother of invention I remeber seeing basic spearfishing-guns in a fishing shop on Gib years ago, always wanted to try for some of those fat grey-mullet that cruised around the boats with impunity What are you going to use yours for Maty?Impulse buy?I think the elastics should be easy to buy online,I just did a single search and found some(check the link) isnt there a guy in the west-country offering spear-fishing courses?Markbrick lists spearfishing amongst his other talents, drop him a line mate http://www.leisurepro.com/Cat/Context_965/Spearguns/967.html Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Cheers mate, I'll have a look for them sea gypsies in ab it. Impulse buy with abit meaning. It's always nice to have different methods of catching fish or quarry for that matter so I'm sure I will have a walk down the river eventually or a trip up the coast. Looks quite interesting all the different heads and sized bands for it. I take It the bigger bands are just for more power? I was looking at some heads, Paralyser they were called and looked quite interesting I'll PM MB too but would guess that the slingshot are too down market for him - come to think of it a lot if not most I have seen on ebay etc are just the air powered. Yokel Matt 918
I have two 'rubber guns' i use for spearfishing. A cressi 75 for around rocks and bommies and a Rob Allen 110 for more open water and good viz off beaches. Both very good and accurate and pretty quite to fire. Rubber needs servicing and oiling to increase its life and its a bit of a fag replacing the wishbones but, personally, i prefer them. I also have two pneumatic Cressi Sub Guns, which i'm actually looking to sell A SL55 and a SL100*. These are both bloody good and faster to load than the rubber guns... good for an inquisitve school of bass! They have threaded shaft ends so you can change the heads from a single point with flails to 3 and 5 prong heads. The 55 has a spare shaft. Both use but i n good nick... £50 the pair if you're interested Quote Link to post
Murph 30
I use a rubber powered speargun but also have a pneumatic. For spares, try spearo dave at http://www.spearo.co.uk and he'll probably be able to sort you out, he's pretty sound. I prefer the tahitian spear to the trident. Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Cheers lads. Thanks for the offer local but I'm just messing about so don't want to spend too much although that does seem like a great price. I had a quick look last night just getting the spear wet - never realised that the spear would bounce so much when shooting into the water Quote Link to post
mackem 29,574
Are you shooting INTO the water Maty?Or from "Under" the water ie....Snorkelling? Quote Link to post
maty j 6
Last night, Into the water on the river. I was only getting the end wet I know I'd have better results with a spear (Infact I mite make one up with this trident head on) but was just testing it out. I'm not near any open water so will be a while before I test It properly. Have you tried shooting INTO the water with one or just used a spear? I'd imagine It would work If you were pritty much parallel to the surface water? Quote Link to post
